The farmer gives Hans his cow, mounts his horse and rides away quickly. Hans walks on guiding the cow with the rope around her neck. Then he gets hungry. Hans takes a break and eats his sandwich. He's thirsty. He ties the cow to a tree and wants to milk her, but no milk comes. Eventually, the cow gets impatient. She kicks out with a hind hoof and hits Hans on the head. He falls to the ground. A butcher comes down the road with a pig. He gives Hans something to drink. He says, "This cow is too old to give milk. You can only slaughter her or use her as a draft animal. My pig has very tender meat. You can even make sausages out of it. If you want, we can trade." Hans says, "Very gladly."
