Hans picks up the sharpening stone and a large fieldstone, places them on his shoulder, and walks on. He's been on the road all day, and the stones are very heavy. Hans is slowly getting tired. In addition he's hungry and thirsty. Luckily he comes across a well. Hans carefully places the two stones at the edge of the well and bends down to drink. By accident, he nudges his stones, and they fall into the well. Hans watches the stones sink and feels a great sense of relief. He's happy that at last he has now gotten rid of all his burdens. Content with himself Hans gets up and walks the remaining kilometers to his mother's house.
