Hans gives the rider his gold lump, mounts the horse, and rides off. It's a wonderful feeling to ride like that. Hans encourages the horse to go faster, and it runs faster and faster. So fast, that Hans is finally thrown off and lands in a ditch. The horse tries to run away, but Hans is lucky: A farmer, who is traveling on the road with his cow, manages to stop the horse. Hans slowly gets up and crawls out of the ditch. He says, "I will never get on a horse again. I nearly broke my neck." The farmer replies, "It's much better with my cow. I walk slowly and comfortably behind her. When I'm thirsty, she provides me with milk, when I'm hungry, I have butter and cheese to eat. If you'd like, we can trade. You can have my cow, and I'll take your horse." Hans says, "Yes, gladly.
